Extra Fine T.J. McMaster Complex Thumb Molding Plane – Auburn, NY, Boxed
A superb and extra fine complex molding plane by T.J. McMaster of Auburn, New York, this example is boxed and features a crisp, well-defined profile ideal for fine architectural or furniture work. Measuring 1 3/8″ wide and marked “3/8” on the heel, this plane likely corresponds to the depth of cut or a shop-specific inventory mark.
McMaster planes are known for their quality and precision, and this example is no exception—clean boxing, tight wedge fit, and a well-seated iron. The Auburn toolmaking tradition, active in the mid-19th century, produced some of the finest American wooden planes, and this piece is a testament to that legacy.
None better for making the finest molding—a standout for collectors of boxed profiles or users seeking a clean, ready-to-go complex plane.
